Jeff Maurer, a Wildlife Biologist at Yosemite National Park, died Sunday, August 30, after falling from the Third Pillar, a technical rock climbing route on Mount Dana. Maurer, 47, has worked in the park for the past 3 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Yosemite Institute, taught at the University of California at Davis, and did research for many conservation organizations. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident. This is a huge loss to the Yosemite National Park and National Park Service family. Our deepest condolences go out to Jeff’s loved ones,” said Acting Yosemite Superintendent Dave Uberuaga.
