National
Park Service Intermountain Regional Director Mike Snyder today announced that
Xanterra Parks
and Resorts, Inc. has been selected to continue to provide lodging, food, and
beverages, retail items and other services within Zion National Park
under a new, ten-year contract that begins January 1, 2009.
“Xanterra
provided the most comprehensive offer to provide visitors the services they require
at Zion National Park,” said Snyder. “Their continued commitment to the National
Park Service and its mission through strong environmental, interpretive,
education and resource management programs in other national parks they
currently serve helped solidify this selection,” Snyder said.
Three
other offers were received for the concessions operations at Zion National Park
and were meticulously reviewed by a team of National Park Service professionals
to ensure the best experiences for park visitors and the most responsible return
on taxpayers’ investments. In 2007,
gross receipts for the concessions operations at Zion National Park
exceeded $10 million. Xanterra Parks
and Resorts, Inc., based in Denver,
CO, currently provides concessions
services at 10 parks service-wide in addition to its other business interests.
“Xanterra
has a long history of quality service at Zion National Park
and their leadership in sustainability and the greening of their operations has
been recognized by the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior”
said Park Superintendent Jock Whitworth.
“Xanterra’s staff at Zion
have been great partners as we work to provide the best possible experiences
for our visitors.”
