Entrance Fees and Passes

Golden Gate National Recreation Area does not charge entrance fees except for at Muir Woods National Monument. Other fees may be charged at various locations throughout the park. Please see the Other Fees section below for more information.

Muir Woods National Monument

Parking/shuttle reservations are required for all vehicles and shuttle riders visitng Muir Woods National Monument. Entrance fees may be purchased in advance with your reservation via GoMuirWoods.com or upon arrival to the park at the visitor center. Entrance fees may also be covered by annual passes. Passes

The following park passes are sold at the Muir Woods Visitor Center and other locations within Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The Interagency Pass admits the pass holder and up to three other adults to Muir Woods and all National Parks/Federal Recreation Lands that charge an entrance fee. There are several different versions of this pass.

Muir Woods Annual Pass $45.00 This pass is good for 12 months. It admits the pass holder and three persons (16 and older) to Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley. A digital version of the Muir Woods Annual Pass is also available for purchase on recreation.gov.

Fee Free Days

All national parks waive entrance fees on various dates throughout the year. Please note the parking reservation or shuttle reservation fee is still required at Muir Woods on these days.

Other Fees

Ferry Tickets for Alcatraz Island

Ferries provide transportation to both Alcatraz Island. One ferry ticket provides access to the island. Alcatraz City Cruises is the official ferry service provider. Purchasing tickets through vendors other than Alcatraz City Cruises may result in unnecessary additional charges. All private vessels are prohibited from docking on the island.

The National Park Service recommends purchasing tickets prior to the day of your visit. You may use one of these methods to reserve tickets:

  • In Person: At the Pier 33 at the cross streets of Bay Street and Embarcadero in San Francisco.

Prices vary with tour package. Please be prepared to show your ticket before boarding.
