Getting There

Camp Nelson National Monument is located along highway US 27 about 20 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky, 6 miles south of Nicholasville on US 27, and 7.5 miles southeast of Wilmore along US 1268. The park entrance is on the original Danville Pike, adjacent to US 27, one mile north of the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. View Map.

Getting Around

Camp Nelson National Monument is split into three sections:

  1. The largest section is located on the east side of Danville Road in Nicholasville, KY and includes the visitor center, U.S. Colored Troops Camp Site, Oliver Perry "White House", the prison site, walking trails, and earthen fortifications.
  2. The Ordnance Depot Site is located further south on Danville Road. This section is directly adjacent to the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
  3. Tucked into the Hall community, the smallest section is located to the southwest and can be accessed from Hall Road, off Danville Road. This section was once the Home for Colored Refugees Site and a Hospital Site. A church dating to the early 1900s now sits on the property. Parking is limited and there are no public restroom facilities.
