Road Conditions

All roads through the park, including State Route-148 and State Route-143, are currently open.

Seasonal Road Closures (Projected)

The main road through the park, State Route 148, closes each year due to snowpack. While the duration of the closure is snow dependent, the road is closed to vehicles from mid-November to mid-May, on average.

The road running through the Northern end of the park, State Route 143, remains open almost year-round. Temporary closures may take place in the event of heavy snowstorms and strong winds. Temporary closures may last across multiple days and is lifted when the road is plowed during daylight hours.

For more detailed information about road conditions and live updates, please contact the Utah Department of Transportation by calling 801-965-4000, or visiting their website.

Facilities

Public Buildings

The newly constructed Visitor Contact Station, Zion Forever Park Store, and Human History Museum are closed for the season and will not reopen until spring of 2025. The reopening date of these facilities is not yet set as operations are snowpack dependent.

Restrooms

The only restrooms available during the winter season are the vault toilets located at the Point Supreme Picnic Area. These restrooms are not accessible by road-based vehicle during the annual closure of State Route 148. Please note, these restrooms are not serviced over the winter season and may be snowed in.

Campground

The Point Supreme Campground is closed for the winter season. This campground will reopen for the summertime and reservations can be made for a stay between mid-June to mid-September.

Picnic Area

The Point Supreme Picnic Area is closed in preparation for the winter season.

Overlooks

Current Status of Roadside Overlooks

All four roadside overlooks, including Point Supreme Overlook, Sunset View Overlook, Chessman Ridge Overlook, and North View Overlook, are open and accessible by road-based vehicle.

Restricted Overlook Access During Winter Conditions

Point Supreme Overlook, Sunset View Overlook, and Chessman Ridge Overlook are inaccessible by road-based vehicle during the annual closure of State Route 148. While the duration of the closure is snow dependent, the road is usually closed to vehicles from mid-November to mid-May. These viewpoints can still be accessed by snowmobile, cross-country skis, and snowshoes during the closure.

During Winter months, North View Overlook may still be accessed by road-based vehicle via State Route 143, which may close temporarily during heightened winter conditions.

Hiking Trails

All trails though the park, including the South Rim Trail, Sunset Trail, and Alpine Pond Loop trail are open.
