This is another very strange-looking object from our museum collection.

This one stumped our staff! This piece of metal is almost as big as an adult hand and it is about as long as a ballpoint pen.

The white arrow is pointing to this artifact, which is actually in situ on the fort grounds.

It sits in front of the barracks for the privates and was an important safety feature. But it did not arrive at the fort until the 1880s--late in the life of the fort.
