GLACIER BAY, ALASKA – The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public feedback to inform management planning for a backcountry area encompassing ~2.6 million-acres of designated Wilderness lands and waters in Glacier Bay National Park.

Planning is in the early stages with no proposed management actions at this time. Public feedback is being sought on targeted topics between February 21, 2020, and April 21, 2020, to help the NPS learn what the public values about the backcountry areas of the park to help inform its update of a 1989 Glacier Bay National Park Wilderness Visitor Use Management Plan.

Park Superintendent Philip Hooge invites everyone to participate in the planning process to help us “preserve the exceptional Glacier Bay backcountry experience and address changing visitor interests in backcountry off-vessel experiences.”

The public can view an informational newsletter on the Backcountry Management Plan effort and submit comments on targeted topics at the National Park Service Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website:

https://go.nps.gov/GBwild

Park officials prefer comments to be submitted through the PEPC website but will also accept comments by mail at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Attn. Backcountry Management Plan, PO Box 140, Gustavus, AK 99826. Comments must be postmarked by April 21, 2020.
