Park Safely in the Smokies!

Demand for parking in some of the busiest park destinations (like Clingmans Dome) often exceeds capacity. Come with an alternative destination in mind, avoid marked no parking areas, and always park with all four wheels out of the roadway.

Newfound Gap/ Clingmans Dome straddles the pinnacle of the Smokies where an important high-elevation pass connects the North Carolina and Tennessee sides of the park via Newfound Gap Road/ US 411. The Appalachian Trail and other trails wind through spruce-fir forest, and at the very top, via Clingmans Dome Road, is a small visitor center and popular lookout tower providing panoramic views.
