Park Safely in the Smokies!

Demand for parking in some of the busiest park destinations (like Kuwohi) often exceeds capacity. Come with an alternative destination in mind, avoid marked no parking areas, and always park with all four wheels out of the roadway.

Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome) & Newfound Gap straddle the pinnacle of the Smokies where an important high-elevation pass connects the North Carolina and Tennessee sides of the park via Newfound Gap Road/US 411. The Appalachian Trail and other trails wind through spruce-fir forest, and at the very top, via Kuwohi Road (formerly Clingmans Dome Road), is a small visitor center and popular lookout tower providing panoramic views.
