1. What are some things to do on my visit? While this project may temporarily close specific areas in the park, Hampton offers several things to do while visiting. In addition to exploring the grounds or taking a guided tour, virtual tours and audio tours offered through the NPS App are available. 2. Where can I find tour information? During construction our tour schedule will be modified based on what areas are available for visitors to safely explore. Check the website for ranger programs and go to Recreation.gov to reserve tickets for tours of the mansion. 3. What parts of the park are currently closed? We have not yet begun the construction phase of the project. Please check our park alerts and conditions for any changes or closures as we proceed. 4. Why are some areas of the park fenced off? To ensure your safety, NPS staff and contractors will need to close different areas of the park while construction is taking place. We will work to keep as much of the park available as practicable during this project. 5. How is this project funded? The preservation work at Hampton National Historic Site is made possible by the Great American Outdoors Act of 2020, P.L. 116-152, which established the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund to address priority deferred maintenance projects on National Park Service and other federal lands. The National Park Service anticipates receiving a maximum of $1.33 billion per year for fiscal years 2021 through 2025. Funding of this magnitude provides the National Park Service with the opportunity to reduce its maintenance backlog, protect critical resources, expand recreational opportunities, and focus on long-term sustainable operations for the next century. Use of these funds on National Park Service projects will also support jobs and business activity in local economies across the nation. 6. How long is this project expected to take? The design phase for the project is complete. Work is scheduled to begin in fall 2025 and last approximately two years. 7. Where are restrooms available? Restrooms are currently available in the Orangery, Dove Cotes, and Visitor Center. 8. I often stroll or walk my dog on the grounds. Are there areas I cannot currently visit? Areas closed to the public will be indicated by signage, fencing, or other physical barriers. Please check our park alerts and conditions for any changes or closures. 9. I am a teacher. How can my students learn more the people who lived and worked at Hampton? There is a wealth of information about the people of Hampton on our website, and resources for self-guided field trips are also available. 10. I am interested in photography and often visit Hampton. What do I need to know when I visit? Areas closed to the public will be indicated by signage, fencing, or other physical barriers.
