Safety and Security at the Gateway Arch

Security Screening

The National Park Service values your safety above all. To protect you and the park, visitors and their belongings are subject to a security screening. All visitors to the Arch must pass through a security checkpoint (similar to airport security procedures) before entering the Museum and Tram Lobby. No weapons, including pepper spray and fixed-blade knives, are allowed (except fold-out pocket knives with a blade size less than 4"). If you have pre-purchased your tram ticket, please plan to arrive 30 minutes before your tram time to ensure plenty of time to pass through security.

There are no bag size restrictions, but please note we do not have on-site lockers. Visitors must keep all their possessions with them at all times. The exception is that strollers and wheelchairs can be left while riding to the top of the Gateway Arch. Your tour guide will show you where to place these items.

Food and drinks are allowed through security, but are not allowed in the museum galleries. Water bottles are allowed in the museum as long as they remain sealed the entire time.

Service animals (as defined by the US Departmentment of Justice) are permitted.
