The Health Physics Exhibit at the B Reactor explores the development of health physics, which is the science of protecting people and the environment from the potential harmful effects of radiation. The Manhattan Project introduced a new work-place hazard: radiation. Safety controls needed to be developed to ensure the safety of radiation workers. Learn about innovations at Hanford during the Manhattan Project that led to a better understanding of the effects of radiation on human health, enhanced protections for workers, and the emergence of a field that continued to protect lives long after the Manhattan Project ended.
