Many routes will bring you to the Missouri River corridor. In South Dakota, Highways 50, 52, and Interstate 29 run east-west along the stretches of the Missouri National Recreational River. In Nebraska, Highway 12 runs east-west along the river. In many areas, county and gravel roads connect these highways to public river access points. Highways that cross the river include SD 46/NE 18 near Pickstown, SD 37/NE 14 near Running Water, and US Highway 81 near Yankton.
Missouri National Recreational River Headquarters The Missouri National Recreational River Headquarters is located at 508 East 2nd Street in Yankton, South Dakota. Here, there is a visitor contact station where information about the park including junior ranger booklets, passport stamps, park maps, and an 18-minute video are available 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The building is closed on all federal holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's days. For more information, please call 605-665-0209. Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM Saturday-Sunday: Closed Closures & Seasonal Exceptions HQ building is closed for the federal holiday and the day after Thanksgiving.
