Eads, Colorado – Get ready to explore a vital part of American history at the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. We invite everyone, especially those who may not have considered a visit, to plan and prepare for a 2025 trip early. Preparing for a trip in advance will help ensure a safe and meaningful visit, filled with reflections and experiences you can take home with you.

Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site was established in 2007 to preserve and protect the cultural landscape and enhance public understanding of the massacre. Begin your adventure by joining an interpretive ranger to learn about the massacre and how it continues to affect descendent communities. After the program, honor the deceased at the repatriation area or find peace among the trees in the visitor use area before embarking on a hike on the Bluff Trail. As you explore the park be on the lookout for rare birds, unique insects, and diverse flora, all while enjoying the beauty of the high plains landscapes that make this park a truly special place.

“Here at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, we are committed to making this historical and culturally significant park opening and welcoming to all,” said High Plains Group Superintendent Eric Leonard. “We invite everyone to explore and find their own meaning in the event that took place at the site.”

We welcome visitors all year round to Sand Creek. Frequent visitors, members of descendant communities, seniors, military personnel, and others can take advantage of additional programs and resources to enhance their experiences. Review all visitor options on our website to decide what suits you best.
