This Virtual Visitor Center page has been designed by park rangers to provide you with the information needed for a successful visit to Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.

 

Top Visitor Questions

Q:What should I know at the start? What about restrooms?
A: The Visitor Center restrooms are open during park hours from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm. They are located outside the VC building. If you are facing the building from the parking lot, walk to the right and the restrooms are located at the bottom of the stairs. While a resurfacing project is in process there is a chemical toilet available suitable for people with disabilities close to disabled parking in the main Visitor Center parking lot. Please remember to remove your vehicle from the parking lot by 5:00pm. Click on the "things to do" link below to help guide your visit.

Q: Where can I find a park map?
A: You can view or download various park maps and trail maps on our maps page. Useful information is also available in front of the Visitor Center doors' awning, in the Visitor Center Parking Lot Kiosk, and near the front of the Cast House. Q: Is the park offering any Ranger-led tours or interpretive programs?
A: There are many self-guided options to learn about the history of Hopewell Furnace, see below. Rangers are stationed at the visitor center and will gladly help answer questions and provide visitors with an orientation of the site. Staff permitting, orientation programs, demonstrations, and events will also be provided during the year.

Q: How can I learn more about the history of Hopewell Furnace?
A: Walk the grounds of Hopewell Furnace to read outdoor exhibit panels, view facades of historic buildings and explore the trails. A: You can shop for Hopewell Furnace NHS related items by visiting the Eastern National online Bookstore. Items include Park Ranger-recommended books and films, variety of souvenirs, such as postcards, t-shirts, magnets, and Junior Ranger items. Proceeds help fund programming at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. This Online Store is managed by Eastern National, a not-for-profit cooperating association.

Things to Do

Walk and hike the numerous trails in the park to visit historic areas with outdoor exhibits, interpretive waysides, and view exterior of historic structures.

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site does not sell America the Beautiful Pass.These passes are available for purchase at federal recreation sites that charge a fee. Tips for Visiting and How to Protect the Park

1. Use the restroom before you arrive, take all trash with you. Please Recreate Responsibly, follow local area health orders, practice Leave No Trace principles, and avoid crowding and high-risk outdoor activities
2. Park in designated parking spots. If a parking lot is busy, please find another legal place to park. Vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed and vehicles that block emergency access (such as on roads or in front of gates) will be towed, as they present a serious safety hazard
3. Please continue to practice social distancing, avoid large groups, and stay 6 feet away from others. Cover your coughs and sneezes. The CDC has offered guidance to help people recreating in parks and open spaces prevent the spread of infectious diseases. We will continue to monitor all park functions to ensure that visitors adhere to CDC guidance for mitigating risks associated with the transmission of COVID-19 and take any additional steps necessary to protect public health.
